We always enjoy poking round classic car shows – it’s such fun to see all the old favourites our parents or grandparents used to drive, plus there are always surprises and new models we’ve never heard of before.
Today was the turn of the 20th annual classic car rally at Leighton Hall, a spectacular stately home near Carnforth in the far north of Lancashire. And what an event! With over 500 vehicles taking part, plus stalls, plus auto jumble, plus the hall’s beautiful gardens to explore, there was something for everyone.
We spent a pleasant couple of hours ambling around. Dave always makes a beeline for the Ford Anglias – the first car he ever owned – while I was bowled over by a 1960s Bentley S3. My grandfather had the slightly smaller Bentley S2 for a while when I was a kid and I still remember with great fondness the electric windows and let-down picnic tables on the back of the front seats!
And I was tempted to buy this amusing sign at one of the auto jumble stalls. I love the idea of tractor vaporizing oil. If I use it, will it vaporize my tractor?
