Not a blog post I ever wanted to write. But after two years of avoiding, evading, socially distancing, and getting every jab and booster going, we’ve both gone down with the virus within a few days of each other.
We’re the lucky ones. Because we’ve had the extra protection from all those vaccines, and because the variant that’s going round now is one of the milder ones, we’ve not been anywhere near as ill as many people were. It’s still been thoroughly unpleasant, though, and I’ve lost about a week’s worth of writing time. We’re also stuck indoors self-isolating at a time when the weather’s just starting to get a bit more spring-like, and we’d love to go off and explore outdoors.
These days there’s no legal requirement to isolate here in England, but the virus is nasty enough that we couldn’t in all conscience go out and risk passing it on to anyone else, especially if unlike us they’re more vulnerable. So we’ve booked supermarket deliveries, battened down the hatches, and laid up on various sofas with tissues, Olbas Oil and the TV remote.
Dave is now a lot better and I’m over the worst, although I still feel like I’ve gone about ten rounds with Mike Tyson and keep having to sit down in the middle of things. I’m hoping to get back to some proper writing soon, but in the meantime I’ve managed to keep going on edits for The Happy Medium. I’m about a third of the way through the book; fingers crossed I’ll finish it before too long – and without any more nasty viral surprises lying in wait for me!

I’m sooo glad to read news like this! Wishing you all the very best health and happiness- and a swift, complete recovery. In the meantime, I’d love to read about your upcoming book. Go get ‘em! ~Adriana
Sorry to hear you’re battling this nasty bug. I wish you a speedy recovery. ❤️ I’m in the same boat as you…fully vaccinated, taking all precautions, but everyone in my household came down with symptoms matching the Omicron variant back at the end of January. Some got tested (positive), and others (including me) didn’t bother with the test. Close exposure plus same symptoms made it pretty obvious. We were so glad to be fully vaccinated so we avoided the worst of it.
Sorry to hear you’ve had it too, hope you’re all completely over it with no nasty fallout. Weirdly, Dave tested positive but mine are still negative even though symptoms are identical. Work that one out!!
Weird. False negatives are not uncommon, though. Especially with this variant, I hear.
Likewise. We suspect it’s the New, All Improved Omicron (2 or whatever) and it seems to be going through my friends like food through a goose…
