I hold my hands up this month – Real Life TM has intervened and I haven’t had a chance to write anything myself on this topic. I think I would have struggled anyway, as my books tend to be set more in the immediate present and most of my characters don’t need (or perhaps want!) a lengthy backstory. Nat in December Roses mentions an incident when he was a teenager which led to him joining the Army, and that’s about it.
However, several of my friends have written fascinating posts on the subject, so why not check those out and introduce yourselves to their characters while you’re at it. Take your pick here:
