We needed to grab a few things from the National Trust for Christmas so on Sunday we buzzed over to one of our nearest properties, Sizergh Castle near Kendal, to browse in their shop.
Not only did we get everything we needed, but we had the added bonus of a brisk walk around the gardens, which are absolutely delightful. It was too cold to linger (or even to take many photographs) and they’d closed off chunks of the garden to “conserve the lawns” (how the other half live!). But we still managed a good march round the rock garden, kitchen garden and one of the lakes. There were a few flowers still brave enough to be out, and some fascinating seed pods.
And near the back entrance to the shop they had these sparkly Christmas reindeer, which made for a great photo opportunity!
