Two have a Scottish road trip

To celebrate our Silver Wedding anniversary we chose a road trip around south western Scotland, starting in Dumfries & Galloway and working our way gradually north to end up in Oban, which is close to where we had our honeymoon all those years ago.

The weather was mostly terrible, interspersed with diabolical, with three storms in just over four days and lots of rain and gales, but we still had tremendous fun. Starting in Scotland’s national book town of Wigtown, we zig-zagged around the coast to the seaside resort of Largs, then had a couple of days in remote Colintraive where there’s a ferry across to the island of Bute, and a couple more days in Inverary, which we’d often driven through but never had a chance to explore.

Along the way we discovered ruins, castles, galleries, old water mills, museums, floods (drove through a couple of doozies), gardens, and above all, spectacular scenery.

I’ll try to post more about each of the places we stayed in due course, but for now here’s a picture of Inverary Castle, a Scottish-baronial-meets-French-chateau affair stuffed with military artefacts which was fascinating to poke round.
